How an idea becomes something published

The pipeline is the difference between publishing when inspired and publishing on purpose. Four stages is enough. Any more and the system becomes the work.

idea
Open

Sitting in the notes app with nothing done to it yet

draft
In Progress

Written or shot. Rough. Nobody has seen it.

edit
In Progress

Being cut down. This is where most things die and that is correct.

published
Done

Out. Dated. Findable later.

Rules that keep it moving

0%

Never have fewer than 5 ideas in the first column

An idea that has been in draft for 30 days gets killed or shipped

One publish slot a week beats four in a good week and none for a month

Batch the boring stage. Do all the thumbnails at once and hate it once

Track the death rate on purpose. A pipeline where nothing dies means you are publishing everything which means the bar is wherever your energy was that day.
