Working Remotely from a Sailboat

Live-aboard remote work is possible but demands serious infrastructure planning. Internet is the primary constraint. Power is secondary. Everything else adapts to boat life faster than you expect.

Solve Internet Access

A Starlink Maritime or Starlink Roam subscription is the most reliable offshore option. In marinas, WiFi extenders and marina ethernet via a travel router supplement satellite.

Manage Power

Size your solar array for your laptop, router, and lights. A lithium battery bank provides buffer on cloudy days. A generator covers extended overcast periods at anchor.

Choose Your Anchorages

Settled anchorages with good holding let you work without motion sickness. Marinas offer shore power and stable WiFi but cost more. Alternate between both based on your schedule.
