The Dan Brown effect is real. Brown's new novel, set in Prague, sparked a campaign by Prague City Tourism called "Praha: City of Secrets." Searches for Prague on travel platforms ticked up measurably within weeks of the book's release.
In 2026, Czech Republic officially joined the Virtuoso global luxury travel network, putting Prague in front of the world's highest-spending travelers for the first time. The city is deliberately pivoting away from cheap nightlife tourism toward culture, architecture, and food.
American Airlines launched a direct route from Philadelphia to Prague for summer 2026, the first direct transatlantic service to the city from a U.S. carrier. Combined with existing direct connections from Taipei, Seoul, and Beijing, Prague is now easier to reach from more continents than at any point in its history.
The Global Peace Index ranks Prague among the world's safest cities for tourists. At a time when travelers are reassessing long-haul destinations, safety is a decisive factor. Prague scores on safety, compact walkability, public transport, and affordability relative to Paris, Amsterdam, or Rome. The price-to-quality gap remains significant.
Prague City Tourism is actively managing the growth. The "Enjoy Respect Prague" campaign sets expectations for noise, alcohol bans in public spaces, and quiet hours. The city is also directing visitors to less-visited districts outside the historic centre, trying to spread footfall beyond Old Town Square and Charles Bridge. The goal is premium visitors who stay longer, not mass crowds who stay one night.
"We are focusing our marketing on travelers over 30 with an interest in culture, history and architecture. Prague is not a low-cost destination for nightlife. It is one of Europe's great cities.
