Best Varieties for Beginners

These four varieties are fast, reliable, and easy to find as seeds. Each brings a different flavor so you can rotate trays and never get bored.

Radish

Ready in 5 to 7 days. Spicy and crunchy. One of the fastest and most beginner friendly microgreens you can grow.

Sunflower

Ready in 8 to 10 days. Mild and nutty with thick stems. Great raw or on top of soups. Needs a longer soak before sowing (4 to 8 hours in water).

Pea Shoots

Ready in 10 to 14 days. Sweet and tender. Grows tall and benefits from being harvested before tendrils appear.

Broccoli

Ready in 7 to 10 days. Mild flavor and very high in sulforaphane. One of the most nutritionally studied microgreens available.

Seed Sourcing Buy seeds labeled for microgreen or sprout use. Garden seeds are sometimes coated with fungicide. Untreated seeds are safer for eating raw.
