Aoraki Straight Ahead
A 10 km return walk up the Hooker Valley to a glacial lake at the foot of Aoraki Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest peak. Three swing bridges, boardwalks and braided rivers make it the most rewarding easy day walk in the Southern Alps.
No booking or permit is required, but the valley funnels strong wind and afternoon cloud onto the mountain, so set out early from the White Horse Hill car park for the best chance of a clear Aoraki view.
