The Lycian Way
A 540 kilometre long distance trail along Turkey's Teke peninsula, threading from Fethiye to Antalya past pine cliffs, turquoise coves and ruined Lycian cities cut straight into the rock. Frequently ranked among the world's great coastal walks, it stitches together rock tombs, Roman amphitheatres and shepherd paths above the Mediterranean.
Walk in spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November), since summer heat on the exposed sections regularly tops 35°C and water sources dry up. Waymarking is the classic red and white Grande Randonnée stripes but is patchy in places, so carry the Kate Clow guidebook or a downloaded GPX track.
