Europe's Toughest GR
The GR20 is Corsica's legendary high mountain traverse, running roughly 180 km across the spine of the island from Calenzana in the north to Conca in the south. It is widely considered the toughest waymarked trail in Europe, with daily scrambles over granite ridges, chains bolted into rock and very little flat ground. This slate captures one section of the full route, which most hikers complete over 15 days staying in mountain refuges.
June and September are the sweet spot since July and August bring thunderstorms and packed refuges, and bookings for huts are mandatory and open months ahead on the official PNRC site.
