Annapurna Base Camp

A 7 to 10 day trek that climbs through bamboo forest, Gurung villages and rhododendron groves into the natural amphitheatre of the Annapurna Sanctuary. The trail ends at 4,130 metres, ringed by a wall of eight thousanders, with Machapuchare and Annapurna I looming directly above camp.

Best windows are October to November and March to April when skies are clear and rhododendrons bloom, and TIMS plus ACAP permits are required from Kathmandu or Pokhara. Avalanche risk through the Hinku Cave gorge is real in winter and early spring, so check conditions in Chhomrong before pushing higher.
