Kalalau Trail

A 22 km coastal cliff trail along the Nā Pali Coast of Kauai, threading fluted green ridges, hanging valleys, and turquoise sea cliffs to remote Kalalau Beach. It is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and exposed coastal hikes in the world, with sections of narrow trail above sheer 100 metre drops.

A state permit is required beyond Hanakāpīʻai Falls and sells out months in advance, and a separate Hāʻena State Park entry reservation is needed for the trailhead. Avoid the trail after heavy rain, as flash floods at stream crossings have killed hikers and the red clay cliff sections turn dangerously slick.
