The Customs Officers' Path
The GR34 is the Brittany coastal path, following the entire perimeter of the region for roughly 2000 km from Mont Saint Michel to the mouth of the Loire. Originally cut by customs officers to spot smugglers, it now threads pink granite headlands, hidden coves, oyster beds, lighthouses and fishing harbours. This slate captures one section of the full route, which is widely regarded as one of the great coastal walks of Europe.
The path is walkable year round but May, June and September give the best mix of long days, wildflowers and quiet villages, and the tide tables matter on a few estuary crossings.
