## How Pin Tumbler Locks Work

Most door locks are pin tumbler locks. Inside the cylinder are spring-loaded pin stacks, each made of a driver pin and a key pin. When the correct key is inserted, every pin stack lifts to exactly the right height, aligning all the gaps at the shear line and allowing the cylinder to rotate.
