In the cutting room with Ralph Rosenblum it became clear that every section involving the relationship worked and most of the rest did not, so they threw out the plot and rebuilt the picture around Alvy and Annie. What survives of the original ambition is the freedom of the form: direct address to camera, split screens of two families eating dinner, subtitles printing what the characters actually mean, an animated sequence, a queue of strangers asked to settle an argument, and a man pulling Marshall McLuhan out of frame to win a point about Fellini. :JOURNEY Watching Annie Hall 2 Confided 3 Met 3 Delighted 4 Adjudicated 4 Diverged 5 Remembered :NOTE.half Diane Keaton's real surname is Hall and her nickname was Annie, and much of the wardrobe that started a decade of menswear on women was her own clothing brought to set. :NOTE.half It beat Star Wars to Best Picture in 1978. Allen did not attend the ceremony, playing his regular Monday jazz set in New York instead. :LINK https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075686/ Annie Hall on IMDb: full cast and crew
