The Edge of the Highlands
The Skyline Trail is the signature walk of Cape Breton Highlands National Park, an easy loop through balsam forest that opens onto a headland of stepped boardwalks high above the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The Cabot Trail road snakes along the coast far below and moose are often seen in the meadows near the path. At sunset the headland faces straight into the lowering sun over the Atlantic.

The trailhead is on the Cabot Trail in the national park. Go in the evening for the best light and the chance of moose grazing near the boardwalk.
