The Postcard Lake
Seealpsee is the lake that ends up on every Appenzell calendar, a sheet of green water held in a bowl of limestone below the Santis massif. From Wasserauen the walk up takes barely an hour on a forestry road, gentle enough for families and reachable by train from St. Gallen. Two mountain inns sit on the shore and serve Alpstein cheese made a few metres away.


:NOTE
Wasserauen is the end of the Appenzeller Bahn line, under an hour from St. Gallen with one change in Appenzell. No car needed.
