Between the Glaciers
The Fimmvorduhals pass threads between two of Iceland's ice caps, Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull, crossing the still warm lava fields thrown up by the 2010 eruption that grounded flights across Europe. The walk drops from the green oasis of Thorsmork over the high cold saddle then follows the Skoga river down past a chain of 26 waterfalls to the great curtain of Skogafoss at the road.

Most walk south from Thorsmork down to Skogar so the long descent past the waterfalls comes at the end. Buses serve both ends in summer.

The high pass is cold, exposed and snow patched even in July, while the valleys can be warm. Layer for both and check the forecast, weather turns fast.
