The Mothman of Point Pleasant
Beginning in November 1966, residents of Point Pleasant, West Virginia reported a tall winged figure with glowing red eyes near an old munitions site they called the TNT area. The sightings ran for about a year. They ended the same month a local bridge collapsed and killed 46 people. The two events have been linked in folklore ever since.

The official investigation blamed the Silver Bridge collapse on a single fractured eyebar, a hidden crack that routine inspection could not catch. There is no official finding that links the Mothman sightings to the disaster. The timing alone gave the legend its lasting power.
