## It Ends with Us

Hoover wrote this about her own mother's experience. That is why it hits where it hits. She does not let you look away and she does not judge anyone.

## The Cycle

Colleen Hoover's 2016 novel follows Lily Bloom, who moves to Boston after her father's funeral and meets the magnetic Ryle Kincaid on a rooftop. They fall into an intense relationship while Lily keeps a journal addressed to her childhood crush Atlas, and processes memories of her mother's complicated marriage. The novel explores how cycles of abuse are perpetuated, what love looks like from the inside of a relationship that is harming you, and what it means to decide the cycle ends here. It became a global sensation via BookTok in 2022, six years after publication, and has sold over 20 million copies.

"A meeting under the stars. He is compelling. She notices everything."

> Just because someone hurts you doesn't mean you can simply stop loving them.

Hoover wrote the novel based on her mother's real experience in an abusive relationship. She dedicated it to her mother and to the courage it takes to make the right decision when the right decision is the hardest one.

The novel was published in 2016 to modest sales. It sat quietly for six years until TikTok's BookTok community discovered it in 2022. It then sold millions of copies in months and became one of the fastest-rising backlist titles in publishing history.
