Ishiguro wrote Kathy's entire narration as a memory told from a place of acceptance. The prose style is the story. Nothing is declared. Everything is understood.

The 2010 film starred Carey Mulligan, Andrew Garfield, and Keira Knightley. Ishiguro won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2017.
