Steep from the first step with no mercy, rest stops are the only relief.
Dark, raining, zero visibility at the top, came back defeated.
Fuego rumbles every 20 minutes and you fall asleep to it, brutally cold.
Skipped the 4am push and built a fire for the group instead, the right call.

The hike starts at La Soledad village, around 1 hour from Antigua by shuttle or tuk-tuk. Guides are required for the national park section above base camp.
Temperatures at base camp drop to 0°C or below. Get warm enough clothes to get through the night.
Fuego erupts roughly every 20 minutes. The eruptions are the whole point. Do not skip the overnight!
