CAS Ruling: What It Says

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled Friday that the IIHF must allow Russian teams back into world championship competition in the 2026-27 season. A CAS panel set aside the IIHF council's decision to extend Russia's ban, finding its "safety, security and other concerns were not supported by sufficient evidence." CAS did not rule on whether Russia must compete as neutral athletes or without national symbols — those questions remain for the IIHF to resolve. The ruling follows the IOC lifting recommended restrictions on Russian athletes in July 2026.
