Under the East Face

Few trails put you this close to the Matterhorn. The Glacier Trail drops from Trockener Steg across moraine and old glacier beds with the great pyramid hanging directly above, twenty information panels along the way explaining how the ice carved this ground. It ends at Schwarzsee, a small lake with a chapel, where the Hörnli ridge that climbers take to the summit begins.
