Countdown to the Glasgow 2026 opening ceremony
A leaner Games returns to Glasgow
Glasgow stepped in to host after Victoria in Australia withdrew, so the 2026 edition is a deliberately smaller and cost focused Games built around a handful of venue clusters. The programme is slimmed down to ten sports and 215 medal events, packed into eleven days from Thursday 23 July to Sunday 2 August. Fewer venues and a tight schedule mean a compact, high energy Games that leans on the city Glasgow already knows how to run.
