The Girl Who Does Not Fit
Veronica Roth's 2011 debut is set in a future Chicago where society is divided into five factions based on virtue: Dauntless for the brave, Abnegation for the selfless, Erudite for the intelligent, Amity for the peaceful, and Candor for the honest. At sixteen, every person must choose their faction for life. When Tris Prior's aptitude test returns inconclusive results, she discovers she is Divergent, someone who thinks across faction lines, and becomes a target for a power that wants to keep its categories clean.
