The Two Coloured Lakes
Besseggen is the most famous hike in Norway, a high ridge in Jotunheimen that runs between two lakes of strikingly different colour, the deep blue Gjende and the green Bessvatnet far below. The classic route takes a boat across Gjende to Memurubu then climbs back over the ridge, with a steep scramble up the Besseggen edge that gives the walk its reputation. The high plateau feels endless and bare.

Most walkers take the morning boat from Gjendesheim to Memurubu and walk back over the ridge so the famous edge is a climb, not a descent.
This is a long exposed day with one genuine scramble. Check the boat timetable and the weather, the plateau offers no shelter.
