The Eagle Walk
The Adlerweg, or Eagle Walk, traces a route across Tyrol shaped on the map like an eagle in flight, and its finest stages run through the Karwendel, the largest limestone range in the Alps. This section climbs from the Hallerangerhaus over the Lafatscherjoch beneath enormous pale walls, passing hut after hut, and finishes high above Innsbruck at the Hafelekar, reachable by cable car back down to the city.
You can end at the Hafelekar and ride the Nordkette cable car straight down into the centre of Innsbruck, one of the few city to summit links in the Alps.
The Karwendel is remote between huts with long stretches of scree. Book the mountain huts ahead and carry enough water, springs are scarce on the limestone.
