VPN and Privacy Stack for Travel

Public WiFi, hotel networks, and cafe connections expose your traffic to interception. A layered privacy setup reduces your attack surface without adding significant friction to your daily workflow.

Choose a VPN

Mullvad and Proton VPN are audited, no-log providers. WireGuard protocol is faster than OpenVPN on mobile. Enable kill switch so traffic stops if the VPN drops.

Harden Your DNS

Use encrypted DNS over HTTPS or DNS over TLS. NextDNS and Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 offer free filtered DNS. This prevents ISP and network snooping on your queries even outside the VPN tunnel.

Harden Your Browser

Firefox with uBlock Origin blocks ads and trackers. Disable WebRTC in about:config to prevent IP leaks. Use separate browser profiles for work and personal browsing.

Test for DNS and IP leaks at dnsleaktest.com

A VPN hides your traffic from the local network but not from the VPN provider. Choose a provider whose threat model matches yours and who has completed independent audits.
