Five Lakes, One Mountain
The Five Lakes Walk strings together five alpine tarns on the slopes east of Zermatt, each a different shade of blue, green or near black. Stellisee and Grindjisee both hold a Matterhorn reflection on a calm day, while Grünsee and Leisee have their own quiet character. The trail loses height gently from Blauherd to Sunnegga, so it walks easy despite the high start.
Duration
~3 hours
Distance
9.3 km
Elevation gain
150 m
Difficulty
T2 — moderate
Stellisee

Take the Sunnegga funicular then the gondola to Blauherd to start at the top and walk downhill past all five lakes.
Stellisee, the first lake, gives the cleanest Matterhorn reflection. Reach it early before the day breeze ruffles the water.
