The Valley of Lakes
The Triglav Lakes Valley is the hidden core of Slovenia's Julian Alps, a string of seven glacial lakes set in a karst basin of pale rock and dwarf pine. The trail climbs from the Bohinj plateau past lake after lake, each a different colour, with a mountain hut at the heart of the valley where many hikers stay the night before pushing on to Triglav itself, the country's highest peak and national symbol.

Swimming in the lakes is forbidden, they are a protected and fragile karst system. Carry all water and waste out with you.
