Ten Lakes from the Crest

The Stoos ridge is short but spectacular, a grassy crest between Klingenstock and Fronalpstock that drops away on both sides high above Lake Lucerne. From the top you can count up to ten lakes scattered across central Switzerland and a sweep of peaks from the Mythen to the Glarus Alps. Stoos itself is reached by the steepest funicular in the world.

The Stoos funicular from Schwyz is the steepest in the world at 110 percent gradient. Chairlifts then run to both ends of the ridge.

The crest is narrow with steep drops on either side. It is a hands free walk in dry weather but feels exposed and should be skipped in high wind.
