Beside the Icefall
The Cabane de Moiry sits on a rock spur right beside the broken icefall of the Moiry glacier, one of the most spectacular hut approaches in the Valais. The path starts at the turquoise reservoir, follows the shore to the glacier snout and then climbs the lateral moraine with the seracs of the icefall crashing down beside you. The terrace of the refuge looks straight into the ice.

Cabane de Moiry

A PostAuto runs up the Val d'Anniviers to the Moiry dam in summer. From the dam the hut is a half day each way, or stay the night and eat at the refuge.
The upper moraine path is steep and loose with some fixed cables near the top. Turn back if the glacier face is shedding ice in warm weather.
